Dental implants have been around for several decades, and have recently become more popular due to an excellent success rate. Materials and techniques have greatly improved allowing implants to be used for a wide variety of purposes. Implants can be used to replace missing teeth or stabilize a loose denture. Crowns on top of implants can be made to look like a natural tooth, and the great thing about an implant: It can’t get a cavity!
A frequently asked question is “Don’t implants hurt?” Actually, bone has no nerve endings, and therefore feels no pain. Usually, the majority of patients soreness comes from removing the tooth, not placing the implant. All that is needed to place an implant is one or two small injections to numb the gum tissue. After that, the patient rarely feels anything at all.
